Keeping You Lifting and Moving Well
CrossFit, Olympic weightlifting, and powerlifting are some of the most physically demanding sports around. They require strength, power, mobility, coordination, and the ability to perform complex movements under load — often at high intensity and volume. When something goes wrong, or when you want to make sure it doesn't, having the right support makes all the difference.
At Active Balance, we understand the culture and demands of these sports. We're not here to tell you to stop lifting — we're here to help you lift smarter, recover faster, and stay in the gym doing what you love.
How We Help CrossFit Athletes and Weightlifters
Injury Prevention and Screening
The overhead squat, snatch, clean and jerk, deadlift, and kipping movements all place significant demand on the shoulders, spine, hips, knees, and wrists. A proactive screening can identify mobility restrictions, movement compensations, and strength imbalances before they lead to injury. We'll work with you to address these early and build a more resilient body for the long term.
Injury Assessment and Rehabilitation
Whether it's a shoulder impingement, lower back strain, knee pain, wrist injury, or something that's been niggling for weeks, we'll get to the bottom of it quickly and put together a clear rehabilitation plan. We prescribe targeted exercises to restore strength and range of motion, address the root cause of the problem, and get you back to training as safely and efficiently as possible.
Return-to-Sport and Return-to-Lifting Protocols
Getting back under the bar after injury requires a structured and progressive approach. We develop individualised return-to-lifting protocols that take into account your specific movements, loads, and competition goals — so you come back confident and prepared, not just pain-free.
Hands-on treatment is an important part of managing pain, releasing tension, and supporting recovery. Our manual therapy techniques include:
- Remedial massage and soft tissue techniques
- Joint mobilisation
- Dry needling
- Myofascial cupping
- Myofascial release
- Trigger point release
Movement and Technique Analysis
Poor technique under fatigue or load is one of the most common contributors to injury in CrossFit and weightlifting. We analyse your movement patterns across key lifts and gymnastics movements to identify mechanical issues and implement corrective strategies — helping you move more efficiently and reduce injury risk without sacrificing performance.
Strength and Conditioning Support
Our exercise physiologists can work alongside your training to build the strength, capacity, and resilience you need to handle increasing volumes and loads. Whether you're preparing for a competition, coming back from injury, or simply wanting to train harder with fewer setbacks, we can develop a program tailored to your goals.
Post-Training Recovery
High training loads demand equally high levels of recovery. We provide guidance on effective recovery strategies to help you manage soreness, reduce cumulative fatigue, and stay consistent across a demanding training schedule.
Common Injuries We Treat
CrossFit athletes and weightlifters frequently present with:
- Shoulder injuries — rotator cuff strains, impingement, labral issues
- Lower back pain — from deadlifts, cleans, or high-volume gymnastics
- Knee pain — patellar tendinopathy, meniscus issues, ACL injuries
- Wrist and elbow pain — from overhead work, front rack position, or gymnastics
- Hip pain and mobility restrictions
- Achilles and ankle injuries
If you're dealing with any of these, or something else entirely, we're experienced in managing the full range of injuries common to these sports.

Our services are for anyone who lifts, regardless of level or experience:
- CrossFit athletes — from first-timers to competitive Games athletes
- Olympic weightlifters — club level through to state and national competitors
- Powerlifters and strength sport athletes
