Running Assessments
Our physiotherapist led running assessments can help improve efficiency, reduce injury risk, and get more out of your training. We assess your technique, strength and movement to uncover the cause and help you get back to running with confidence.

Why Book a Running Assessment?
There are a number of reasons you may wish to have your running assessed by one of our physios. The most common is that you may be suffering from pain or a recurring injury that is limiting your running, or you may just be interested in looking at your technique and running style to make sure you’re moving efficiently and reducing your risk of injury.
Running injuries arise due to a range of factors, including:
- Poor training load management
- Running technique
- Muscle strength imbalances
- Reduced muscle endurance
- Training environment, shoes etc
Common injuries we see in runners include:
- Shin splints
- Plantar faciitis
- Patella tendinopathy
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Gluteal tendinopathy
- ITB friction syndrome
- Compartment syndrome
- Hip bursitis
- Lower back pain
- Adductor tendinopathy
- Ankle impingement
- Stress fractures
- Muscle strains
What do our running assessments involve?
Our running assessments are a two part process.
Initial Assessment (60 minutes)
The first session is designed to thoroughly assess your running, identify contributing factors to injury or inefficiency, and understand your goals.
We’ll discuss:
- Your running goals and training
- Current or previous injuries
- Upcoming events or races
- Lifestyle factors that may impact recovery
We then assess:
- Strength and range of motion
- Force output, landing mechanics and control
- Movement patterns and imbalances
Using VALD technology, we gather objective data on strength and performance, allowing us to track progress accurately over time.
We'll then get you running on the treadmill to analyse key aspects of your technique, including:
- Cadence
- Arm swing
- Trunk rotation
- Foot strike
- Posture and upper body positioning
- Hip extension
- Foot and ankle mechanics
Follow-Up Appointment (30–60 minutes)
At your follow-up appointment, your physio will guide you through a personalised plan based on your assessment.
This may include:
- A tailored strength and rehab program
- Technique adjustments
- Training load guidance
- Hands-on treatment (if required)
- Advice on footwear and running surfaces
- Referral to other professionals if needed
The goal is to help you run with less pain, better efficiency and greater confidence.
