Laser Headlamp Therapy for Dizziness, Vertigo & Headaches

Retrain balance, reduce dizziness, and improve head & neck control.

If you’re experiencing dizziness, vertigo, or ongoing headaches, the cause isn’t always just your inner ear. Often, the neck plays a key role in how our brain interprets movement and balance.

At Active Balance, we use laser headlamp therapy to assess and retrain the connection between the neck, brain, and balance system.

What is laser headlamp therapy?

Laser headlamp therapy uses a lightweight headband with a small laser pointer to track your head movement.

By performing simple, controlled movements while aiming at a target, we can:

  • Assess how accurately your body senses head position
  • Identify issues with neck proprioception (joint position sense)
  • Guide targeted exercises to improve control and coordination

Who can it help?

This treatment can be particularly helpful for people experiencing:

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Vertigo
  • Cervicogenic dizziness (neck-related dizziness)
  • Persistent or recurrent headaches
  • Neck pain or stiffness
  • Poor balance or unsteadiness
  • It’s especially useful if symptoms are linked to neck movement, posture, or previous injury such as whiplash.

Why the neck matters...

The upper neck, especially the suboccipital muscles, contains a high number of receptors that help the brain understand where our head is in space.

If this system isn’t working well, it can create a mismatch between:

  • Vision
  • The inner ear
  • Neck proprioception

This mismatch can lead to symptoms like dizziness, disorientation, and headaches.

How we use it in treatment

Laser headlamp therapy is used for both assessment and rehabilitation.

Your physio may guide you through:

  • Precision head movement exercises
  • Returning your head to a neutral position accurately
  • Tracking and control tasks using the laser
  • Progressing from slow → faster → more functional movements

These exercises help “retrain” the system and improve how the brain processes movement.

More about us

Part of a complete treatment plan

We don’t rely on just one tool.

Laser headlamp therapy is typically combined with:

  • Hands-on treatment for symptom relief
  • Neck mobility and strength work
  • Vestibular rehabilitation (if needed)
  • Load management and return-to-activity planning

The goal

Our aim is simple:

  • Reduce dizziness and headaches
  • Improve balance and confidence
  • Restore normal movement and control

Continue your rehab at home

To help you get the best results, we also offer laser headlamps available for hire.

We have a small number of units available for clients to rent for a minimal fee, allowing you to:

  • Continue exercises at home
  • Stay consistent with rehab
  • Progress the program between sessions

Your physio will guide you on exactly how to use it, so you feel confident continuing your treatment outside the clinic.

Not sure if this is right for you?

Our physios will assess your symptoms and determine whether this approach is appropriate for you.

If you’ve been dealing with ongoing dizziness or headaches, we can help you get to the bottom of it, and create a plan to get you moving confidently again.
