Remedial Massage Adelaide
Remedial massage is a hands-on treatment focused on reducing muscle tension, easing discomfort, and helping your body move more comfortably.
At Active Balance, we take the time to listen & understand what’s going on, not just focus on where it hurts. From there, we will tailor your treatment to help you feel better, move more comfortably, and get back to doing what you enjoy.
What is Remedial Massage?
Remedial massage is a style of massage that focuses on identifying and treating areas of muscle tension, imbalance, or discomfort.
It combines hands-on techniques with adjustable pressure and a tailored approach based on how you're feeling on the day. This makes it a great option for general muscle tightness, maintenance, and everyday aches.

Depending on your needs, this may include:
- Ongoing hands-on treatment
- Addressing any new or ongoing areas of tightness
- Adjusting techniques based on how you're feeling
- Supporting recovery from work, training, or daily life
These sessions are more focused and efficient, while still tailored to how you're progressing.

- Looser and more mobile
- Less tight or restricted
- Tenderness on areas that have been worked on
- Mild soreness (similar to post-exercise), which usually settles within 24–48 hours

FAQs
Can I claim remedial massage through private health insurance?
Yes — remedial massage is typically covered by most private health funds, depending on your level of cover. We can process your claim on the spot if you bring your health fund card
Is remedial massage firm or gentle?
It can be either. One of the key benefits of remedial massage is that it’s adaptable — your therapist will adjust the pressure based on your preference and what your body needs on the day.
How is remedial massage different from deep tissue massage?
Remedial massage is more flexible in style and pressure, and often focuses on overall muscle tension and maintenance. Deep tissue massage is typically stronger and more targeted at deeper muscle layers.
How often should I book remedial massage?
This depends on your needs. For general maintenance, every 2–4 weeks works well. During periods of increased stress or tightness, you may benefit from more frequent sessions.
Can remedial massage help with stress as well as muscle tension?
Yes — while it’s more targeted than relaxation massage, it still has strong benefits for reducing stress, improving circulation, and helping you feel more relaxed.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear comfortable clothing. Depending on the area being treated, you may be asked to expose that region, but your comfort and privacy are always prioritised.
